We decided to have a little break and we went to St Andrews early on Saturday morning and had booked a Bed and Breakfast for the night.
It was a lovely day and we spent some time around the shops, not Rorys favourite thing but he's very patient :) - then we went for a bit of lunch before going to the West Sands beach.
Being such a gorgeous day there were a lot of people there. Rory was in his element, chasing the ball and digging in the sand. There were lots of doggy friends around and kite fliers and sand yachters too. We walked for what seemed like miles. We even paddled for a while, Rory wasn't too keen on that so he stuck to dry land ! lol
Then we headed for the B&B and discovered that the lovely lady had 2 dogs there, a golden lab and a collie. She also had a huge garden so the three dogs were romping around there for ages.
Rory had been given his own pillow in our room and he looked very comfortable going to sleep with his head on the pillow lol
This morning we drove around the East Neuk of Fife, visiting Elie beach before we went to St Monans. They have a windmill there so we walked along the shoreline and sat and enjoyed the warm sunshine beside the windmill. On our walk back we stopped to watch a woman and her dog who were down beside a seawater swimming hole. The lady was throwing the ball in and the spaniel was having a great time swimming after it. As we stood and watch Rory watched with us and got very excited about it. He jumped up on me (which he'd never done before), and it was as if he was saying "I want to do that, let me do that, please please!!" lol - We were a bit nervous about this as he'd never shown any interest in swimming before. As we got down there the spaniel took off again after his ball and you could tell Rory really wanted to go too but he just couldn't make himself jump in ! lol . We got talking with the woman and explained that he'd never done it before. So she took Rorys ball and threw it in - again he really really wanted to go in but couldn't ! The spaniel very kindly retrieved the ball lol - the woman tried again, this time walking out a little way on the stone wall surrounding the pool. This time she threw the ball in but only a little way. After a bit of hesitation Rory launched himself into the water, which, just for a fleeting moment we cheered lol - then .............................. HE SANK ! yep, disappeared completely under the water. My heart stopped - I was frozen. The woman was very matter of fact, she looked over at us and said "he's fine" - well he didn't seem fine !!! he was gone !! - then all of a sudden his head bobbed up to the surface, and the rest of his body - he started trying to scramble out of the water, but the side of the wall was sheer and he couldn't pull himself up far enough. So I started calling his name "come on Rory , come on , this way !!" Then I realised he had the ball in his mouth lol - and very slowly he started doggy paddling towards us. I was so relieved ! so was Gordon. He did go into the water a few times after the ball after that, but I wouldn't say he was totally confident in the water. We came to find out later that the pool was only about 3 feet deep LOL - and Gordon said that when Rory went under he was ready to go in after him. He was probably only under the water for a few seconds but it felt like hours !
So, that was his adventure today and hopefully we can find somewhere close by so that he can practice his swimming lol - St Monans is a bit too far (about 1.5 hour drive) to get to very often.
We didn't get the best pics of him but we did manage to get a couple :)

Well done Rory, he'll get the hang of it soon enough Moira.
