It's Saturday so we had a bit of a lie in and didn't get up till after 8am. Rory seemed quite happy to have a lie in too !
As it was such a lovely morning we decided to walk into town to go to the local market. It's held on the first Saturday of every month. It is usually busy especially on a sunny day and we met lots of people we knew there. Everyone wants to talk to Rory and get updates on him. We got some fresh fish and eggs and a couple of different chutneys, "Crazy Carrot and Ginger" and "Hot Banana" - I love chutney.
They were having some entertainment at the market and we wanted to check that out. It was some African drummers. Rory was a bit startled when they started and had to nose his way through my legs to see what was happening. After a few minutes he decided it was nothing to worry about lol
We went home and had a quick bite of lunch. We wanted to take Rory to the aerodrome. Well it's not an aerodrome any longer but it was in WW11. The runways are still there and there is a huge of expanse of green which is an extremely popular place for dogwalkers. There is also a golf driving range and one of the local football teams has its ground there too.
Anyway, we knew it was the perfect place for Rory to play with his ballthrower No chance of hitting any trees or other obstacles! Sure enough he had a great time with it and we were amazed at how much speed he could get up ! There were two other dog walkers there with ballthrowers too ! Rory wasn't fussy as to which ball he was chasing either and we had to return another dogs ball on 2 occasions lol After a lot of running around (Rory not us ) we sat on the grass to let him rest for a bit. He was panting a lot and it seemed like his tongue was getting longer by the minute !
In hindsight we should have taken some water with us for him.
We got home and he drank his whole bowl of water, so I refilled it for him and he had most of that one too ! I was just walking into the living room with a cup of tea when I saw Rory being sick on the carpet ! And he'd already been sick on another spot. Poor baby !!!! I think we might have overdone it a bit with him, and he was very excited so maybe a combination of the two things made him ill. I also wonder if it was a good idea to give him that much water, although they always say you should give a dog access to water at all times. Not a very nice task having to clean up the sick :(
Anyway, we kept a close eye on him for the rest of the day and he seemed to be fine. He was out in the garden for a little while in the afternoon and we took him for a short walk this evening. He ate his tea and hasn't shown any signs of not feeling well. I think just a case of overdoing it a bit.

Aww bless poor Rory.
ReplyDeleteBlack labs can get overheated and too much water too quickly will make him throw up. He is really settling in well with you.
Lxx
Thanks for that. I'll make sure he doesn't consume as much water next time ! My last dog, a golden retriever, didn't drink a fraction of the water that Rory does lol
